Branson Airport Runway Construction Nears CompletionOct '08
The Branson Airport, the first privately financed and operated commercial service airport in the United States, announced in late September that construction on the airport's runway is almost complete. As of Sept. 29, all painting on the 7,140 foot-long, 150-foot wide runway and parallel taxiway had been finished, with the last of the runway lights, signage and navigational aids scheduled for installation within the week.

"This is an important construction milestone for the airport," said Jeff Bourk, executive director. "Now that the runway is completed, you can really start to see the airport taking shape. Our next step will be to get the terminal building finished."

The airport, located in Branson, Mo., is scheduled to open next May with an extraordinary air show. The country's top air show performers will make up the world-class, action-packed lineup for an extravaganza that will set the stage for the opening of the nations' first privately financed and operated commercial airport, May 9-10, 2009.

The runway will be able to accommodate aircraft ranging in size from private airplanes up to and including commercial airliners the size of a Boeing-767. This will enable the airport to receive nonstop air service from anywhere in the continental U.S. Construction on the airport's terminal building is also underway, with completion scheduled for April. Work on the control tower is set to begin in early November and be completed by next April.
