Dear Mr. Lips,

I am a longtime reader of the Van Nuys Aviation Journal, and I have missed it the last few months. So, I was pleased to see it resurrected as the March/April issue of the Airport Journals. Apparently you have undergone some major changes in management during the recent past, and I congratulate you for surviving them. I wish you well, and I commend the staff for their dedication to these publications.

Also, I am glad to see that Harlis Brend is very capably taking over the southern California coverage of Van Nuys, Camarillo, Santa Paula and the surrounding areas after the untimely death of Fred Blechman last year.

Those of us in the San Fernando Valley do appreciate his adept writing and his excellent photos. Keep up the good work.

An added commentary about your column "Read My Lips": I also grew up on a farm in a small town in South Dakota (during the depression of the 1930s). So, I appreciated your story about the banker in Canton. I was too young to remember the day that the banks were closed by the government, but I do remember the later consequences very well.

The bank in my hometown of Northville never re-opened, but the one in the neighboring community of Mansfield survived, and it still operates today in the original building that is about 100 years old. Like Olie Anderson, it met the challenge. It still serves three or four surrounding small towns and their adjacent farmers. I know the banker very well, as does nearly everyone in the county.

Keep charging ahead like the South Dakota bankers.

Regards,
A.W. Boekelheide

Dear Paul,

Thank you for sending me several copies of your March/April edition. The pictures from the Living Legends awards brought back a flood of memories.

Paul, it was just such an honor to be part of the event. It is something I will always remember and cherish. I am grateful to have been included.

Hope to see you soon. Again, thank you for a very special evening.
